In which I review Sticky9 – a service for printing your Instagram pictures. I even have some to give away!
I love Instagram. Ok, anyone looking closely at the above screenshot of my Instagram profile will see that I only have 100 followers but I don’t Instagram my pictures for attention. I do it because all those pretty filters make my photography skills look half decent. Which, when I look back on the collection, makes me remember my life fondly, as if I really am wandering around with an X-Pro tint all over my trees and flowers.
Remember photo albums? Actual, hold-in-your-hands photo albums? Remember Jessops? Remember friends getting back from holidays and having to feign interest in their holiday snaps while they leant over your shoulder telling you what you were looking at?
Those days are dead.
But new days are alive, times change, and that’s okay. I actually like looking through people’s pictures now, on Facebook and Instagram. I feel disappointed when people get back from holidays or weddings and don’t upload an album for me to stalk. I like surreptitiously looking through my friend’s pictures in my own time, at my own speed, without a voiceover. My own speed being super fast, because they are not in the room so I don’t have to pretend I’m looking at anything more than how thin or fat they got on holiday or what wedding dress the bride went for.
I do miss photographs though, as in, the ones you hold in your hands, not the pixelated images on your computer screen. We printed our wedding pictures into an album. I like knowing there is a cherished album for me to save come a house fire. You know, after I’ve saved my computer.
Now, you can print your Instagram pictures, aka, the best pictures you’ve ever taken. Sticky9’s service allows you to print off a choice selection of your Instagram pictures ON MAGNETS for your fridge, or other metal goods that you might want to stick pictures to. I went for my fridge. We really wanted a blue fridge for our new kitchen and thanks to Ebay, found this one cheap as chips. It’s a Smeg, yes, but it’s secondhand, so affordable.
I love it. I’ve never actually loved a fridge before. And now my lovely fridge tells a tale or nine.
I realise what I’ve done here is lean over your shoulder and explain what each picture is – exactly what we don’t miss about photo albums circa 1999. But of all my 109 instagram pictures, these mean the most to me. My nine most wonderful Instagrammed memories.
I’ve teamed up with Sticky9 to give away some magnets (with your own Instagram pics on, not mine. You don’t have to put a picture of my chicken on your fridge. I’ll save that for another competition.) All you have to do is a) have an Instagram account and b) comment below. Sticky9 will choose someone at random who will be the lucky recipient of the free pack. (Shipping worldwide!)
P.S Sticky9 also print your pictures onto pants. Just saying.
