Today is a very exciting day at Lunacy of Ink. For today I announce that I have only gone and done it!

    Abstract background

    Greetings Earthlings.

Drum roll please… I have been shortlisted in the Lifestyle Category of the Cosmo Blog Awards 2013.

In the blogging world, these awards are kind of a big deal. It’s our Olympics and our Oscars, all rolled into one hopeful night in October when the winners are announced and we all go home with a goodie bag. Last year, I interrupted my honeymoon to attend the awards.

Hand me my own trumpet so I can blow it, because last year I was shortlisted from a longlist of 35,000. This year, the longlist was 43,000. I’m in the final eight. (Ok, the final eight in my category and there are loads of categories. But telling people I’ve made it from a group of 43,000 to a group of EIGHT sounds really impressive so I’m sticking with it. The truth is just maths.)

The Cosmo Blog Awards are in association with Next. Ah… Next. Next and I have a special relationship. When my sister was 18 she got her first job in Next and I looked on, from my 12 year old’s world view, and thought, ‘Right-o, will do.’ So when I was 18, I got a job in Next too. Do you remember that, Next of Guildford, Surrey? I went in for a shop-floor job and they were so impressed by the B in maths my CV proudly sported, they offered me the job of assistant to the regional cash officer.

Now, the only reason I got a B and not a D in maths GCSE is because my father, a maths wizard, heard I was doomed to slur the family name with a D and hot footed it over to my mother’s house to give me a crash course in algebra. Suddenly, and for a very short period, I understood maths. Come the exams, I waved goodbye to D, didn’t even stop to look at C and landed happily on B. Dad was delighted. My maths teacher presumed I must have cheated. And Next decided they’d leave me in charge of counting the money.

NextBut we did alright, didn’t we, Next? 13 years later and I still have a soft spot for you. Just the other day I bought these shorts. They’re an inch longer than I’d have gone for in previous summers because I have decided to hide more flesh now that I’m 31 and have more flesh to hide.

Thank you to everyone who voted me into the shortlist. Blogging can be a bit lonely, I have no idea who’s reading or what my end game is. To be recognised like this is fricking fantastic. Plus, after last year’s awards I got sent some free wet wipes, so it comes with all the trappings of fame that I can possibly dream of.

Please vote for me again. This is the bit where I go from shortlisted to WINNER.

It’s convoluted, but here’s the step by step guide.

Click here to vote for me.

You then have to scroll through to page FIVE to find the LIFESTYLE category. There I am, little old Lunacy of Ink. Click me. Then keep scrolling through to page 13 where you have to enter your email address. Then click ‘next’ and then finally – if you are still with me I owe you a drink –  click SUBMIT.

I would love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love  to win. But I’m not competitive.
